5/25/2011The APSCUF Rams outlasted Comcast Sportslight in a sloppy but highly entertaining contest that went down to the final out, winning 13-12. Catcher Corrine Murphy drove in the winning run in the top of the 7th inning with a hard grounder to the infield that scored John Turgeon and gave the Rams a two run cushion. Comcast scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 7th and had the winning runners on base but winning pitcher Kevin Flynn coaxed a lazy fly to left fielder Chris Stangl to seal the win. Flynn came out of the game in the 5th inning after getting blasted on his wrist with a line drive. But after icing the wrist down for an inning, he pitched the 6th and 7th. Manny Otero blasted a home run and pitched the 5th in relief of Flynn. The Rams were uncharacteristicly sloppy in the field. They allowed Comcast’s lead-off hitter to reach first base on an error in five straight innings. All of those runners scored. But a nifty around-the-horn double play between Otero, second baseman Rennie Frame and first baseman Kuhio Walters ended a Comcast threat in the 6th. The Rams felt lucky to win this tightly fought game.
